Vision 4.2.5

May 15, 2009

Vision 4.2.5 and Vision 4.2.x Tasks updates and installers have been added. Vision and its Task now offer:

  • Plot annotation configuration and insertion has been added to the Cursors menu for all Tasks that plot data on a dialog, either during QuikLook execution or when data are recalled from the DataSet Archive. Lines, ellipses, rectangles, text and a variety of symbols (with or without text) may be added. Annotation color may be adjusted for each type of annotation. Text size, line type and symbol type are under user control. In data recalled from the DataSet Archive, annotations are persistent.
  • Tester Serial Number, Tester Name and Tester Type are captured by all Hardware Tasks on execution. Tester Name and Tester Serial Number are displayed on data dialogs. Tester Name and Tester Serial Number are included in all Hardware Task exporting. This will be especially useful to RTI when reporting problems. Tester Type is maintained so that the Amp Level list is always filled with proper values.
  • Vision now addresses the DataSet Explorer list file in C:\DataSets\xplorerdb.cpu. It also reads and writes Editor List.el and all User-Defined Tasks (*.udt files) in C:\DataSets. The location has been moved because some users report difficulties if they don't have administrator privleges. Vision needs to read and write these files during execution or on startup and shutdown. Some users don't have write privleges to C:\ or C:\Program Files\...
  • GPIB Read Temperature Task added. This Task repeatedly reads, reports and stores the current temperature at the programmed thermal controller.
  • Vision 4.2.5 is compatible with drivers released 5/11/09.
  • Measurement Tasks show updated Amplification Level lists in configuration dialogs when connected to a Precision Premier II tester.
  • Vision reads/writes ETD Notes to C:\DataSets\Notes. It also reads/writes Settings.bn to C:\DataSets\Settings.bn. Settings.bn holds the DataSet Explorer folder and subfolder paths for registered DataSets that are located in folders or subfolders. The paths to these tools have been changed to avoid write permission errors in the C:\Program Files... paths.
  • The Documents Library window, introduced under Vision 4.2.2, has been temporarily removed.
Driver Status

May 15, 2009

The NGS_USB_DRIVER.dll has been updated as of May 15, 2009. Please go to Updates to Vision or click on the links below to download and install the updated driver if you are using Vision 4.0 or higher.

Windows XP Vista or Windows_2000 => 5/15/09

UPDATE Drivers => 5/15/09

Usually, Radiant does not report on changes to the driver as those changes do not affect measurements. The changes on this driver are significant. The four most important changes are:

1) The ramp generator for the DRIVE output on the Premier II has been adjusted for those samples using the top three amplification settings below 10V to eliminate distortion in measurements made to capacitors with the equivalent value of 100pF or less where the hysteresis frequency was above 10kHz. This change means that 100kHz measurements made to small capacitors below 10V will have no phase distortion. Previously, there was phase distortion in these very fast measurements. Those distortions were due to software settings and not hardware so installing the new driver will correct all Premier II testers regardless of age.

2) The ramp generator settings for all amplification stages on the Premier II when using the internal 100V or 200V amplifiers have been changed, significantly increasing the frequency at which hysteresis loops may be executed for samples larger than 100pF in equivalent capacitance. Despite this change, the maximum frequency limit for the standard Premier II using the 100V amplifier is 10kHz and the maximum frequency limit for the standard Premier II using the 200V internal amplifier is 5kHz.

3) The updated driver will operate the Precision Multiferroic tester. The Multiferroic tester is a hardware modification of the standard Premier II that will allow hysteresis loops up to 50kHz using the 100V internal amplifier and 30kHz using the 200V internal amplifier. If you are interested in modifying your Premier II to be a Multiferroic tester or if you want your new Premier II to meet this specification, contact Michelle Bell at 505-842-8007 or radiant@ferrodevices.com

4) The Precision RT66B may now be operated using 200V amplifiers or smaller without an HVI. The latest driver will enable that function but you must purchase an ID Module for your amplifier from Radiant Technologies. Attaching the ID Module to the RT66B will enable this function as long as the amplifier identified in the ID Module is less than or equal to 200V. Connect the DRIVE output of the RT66B to the input of the amplifier and then the output of the amplifier to the sample. You must download and install or update the latest version of Vision to enable this function. Go to Updates to Vision .

This functionality will not work with any other tester besides the RT66B or for any amplifier greater than 200V. For those situations, you must use an High Voltage Interface for safety during tests.
